For alcoholics and addicts social functions are fought with uncertainty. Alcohol and drugs are prevalent. Family reunions, parties, funerals, holidays and corporate functions can trigger a relapse. Having a sober companion at your side can bring comfort and give our clients the confidence to navigate through these situations without drinking or substance using.
If the addict is accustomed to drinking or using drugs to soothe discomfort before, during, and after social events, the addict may need someone to show them how you can actively "have fun" at events without having to consume a drink or use mind altering substances.
When you're new in sobriety, you don't know when you'll experience an emotional trigger that will send you on another run. For example at a social function, you may fear running into someone you'd rather not see or having to strike up a conversation with a stranger can be triggers. Triggers make you want to drink to lessen anxiety and fear. Having a sober companion with you in situations that are new or uncertain can help you process uneasy feelings and triggers and help you have a good time.
Footprints of Serenity's Recovery Companions provide the ease and comfort stepping stone into integrating individuals back into society. If you or a loved one needs assistance with getting sober or guidance back into society after treatment, please call 213-80-SOBER, we are here to help
